More attacks like the one on the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo will come if the network of Islamist terror is not stopped, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said Sunday morning.
“There are more Parises coming until you disrupt this network,” Graham said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “There are more terrorist organizations with more safe havens, with more capability to hit the homeland [than] before 9/11,” he continued.
“The answer is to form a regional coalition — America has to be part of it. Go in underground and get these guys out of Syria. The current strategy is failing,” Graham said.
The South Carolina senator also revealed that he would be willing to end his push for further sanctions against Iran. “If he [President Obama] thinks sanctions is [sic] disruptive to a good outcome, I'm willing to forgo that vote with the understanding that any bill he negotiates will come to the Congress for our approval or disapproval as a check and balance.”
But Graham also went on the offensive against President Obama, once again blaming the president’s policies for deaths in Syria. “I think his policies are getting people killed,” Graham said.
“Almost 300,000 people have been killed in Syria on his watch … Letting people out of Gitmo in this environment, I think is irresponsible. So yes, his campaign promises should be adjusted based on reality,” Graham said.
When asked about Boko Haram leveling villages in an offensive in Nigeria this month, Graham said the group does not represent the same type of threat to the U.S. that ISIS or Al-Nusra does. “The next stage of the fight, I think, is Africa,” Graham said. “But if we could show some resolve in Syria and Iraq and reset the table and go after these guys in Syria and Iraq with success, I think it would change the landscape throughout the world. Success anywhere breeds success everywhere.”
