The Virginia Tech football team plans to wear helmet stickers honoring alumni Adam Ward and his colleague Alison Parker, who were shot and killed during a live newscast, the team announced Monday.
The Virginia Tech Hokies will wear the stickers, featuring teal and maroon ribbons, during their season opener against Ohio State on Labor Day, the team said in a statement.
Teal was Parker's favorite color, and maroon — Virginia Tech's school color — will represent Ward, who graduated from the school in 2011. The middle of the sticker has the number seven. Ward, 27, and Parker, 24, worked for WDBJ7, the station they were doing a live report for when a former employee fatally shot them both Wednesday.

Virginia Tech said that the journalists had been honored over the weekend at soccer matches and volleyball games with moments of silence and ribbons.
"It is shocking and deeply saddening for this community to be again struck by gun violence," Larry Hincker, associate vice president for Virginia Tech relations, said in a statement Wednesday. In 2007, 32 people were shot and killed on the university's campus by a student.
The school has set up a scholarship in Ward's honor.
James Madison University, where Parker graduated from in 2012, also set up a fund in her memory, which has already raised $50,000. Parker's family has asked that the scholarship money be used to help a student in the School of Media Arts and Design, according to the university.
