New Mexico police have released a description of the driver suspected of fatally shooting a 4-year-old girl in the head during an apparent road rage attack on Tuesday afternoon.

The suspect in the incident on Interstate 40 in Albuquerque is described as either a white male with a dark complexion, or possibly Hispanic; in his mid-20s to early 30s with an average build; and with short dark hair and a goatee, witnesses said.

Lilly Garcia, 4, was killed in an apparent road rage attack in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Oct. 20, 2015.

The car he was in was either a newer maroon or dark red four-door Toyota sedan. Albuquerque police say it is a "sportier" Corolla or Camry model with a spoiler on the trunk, and tinted windows. It also had a University of New Mexico Lobos logo and possibly the digits "200," according to NBC affiliate KOB.

The victim was also identified Wednesday as Lilly Garcia, who was struck in the head and later died at the hospital. Police say the girl was riding in the family's truck with her father and mother when another car pulled up beside them and began spraying bullets into the vehicle.

Neither parents, who described the shooting as a "road rage" incident, were hurt.

One witness, Jonelle Tafoya, said she was driving on I-40 when she caught the action: a red truck was "not allowing the red (sedan) to pass (and) kept swerving from lane to lane to keep the vehicle behind them."

Tafoya peeled away from the two cars, but later got a notification on her phone that a child had been shot on the same highway.

"All I could think was, 'Oh my God. That was it exactly. That was probably the road rage incident we had seen,'" Tafoya told KOB.

A relative of the Garcias have set up a GoFundMe page to cover the cost of Lilly's funeral.

In a message on the page, the girl's mother, Veronica, pleads for help to find the gunman.

"I need to catch the individual who took my baby from me, her Dad and her brother," the message says. "I beg you, please please please share."

Police are offering a $1,000 reward for tips that lead to an arrest. Mayor Richard Berry later said that he was offering "an additional $10,000" in the case.
