The White House on Tuesday condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin's attempt to annex Crimea and said that the United States and the international community will not recognize it.
"Such action is a threat to international peace and security and it is against international law," White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters. "We would not recognize this attempted annexation."
Carney said that further sanctions against Russia are "coming," although he would not say when those decisions would be announced.
