Washington Mudslide: Learn How to Help

Donations have been pouring in to help victims whose homes were destroyed in the mudslide that ripped through Oso, Wash. The disaster is one of the deadliest landslides in U.S. history. So far authorities have reported at least 39 deaths and officials say those still missing are unlikely to have survived. Volunteers are working around the clock to feed, clothe and house those who have been displaced.

We've compiled a list of organizations that are accepting donations. See how you can help:

The American Red Cross

You may donate to Red Cross Disaster Relief online or call 800-733-2767. To contribute $10, simply text "RedCross" to 90999.

Cascade Valley Hospital Foundation

The city of Arlington, Wash., has posted a link to the Cascade Valley Hospital Foundation. One hundred percent of the money donated will go to the Oso fund.

Snohomish County Volunteer Search and Rescue Unit

This 300-member nonprofit volunteer organization responds to emergency calls 24/7 in Snohomish County. You can donate by visiting their website. To see the latest updates on their work in Oso, check out their Facebook page.

The Soup Ladies

Their motto is "Warming the world, one bowl at a time ... " And for a decade The Soup Ladies have been doing just that, providing fresh cooked meals to first responders and rescue teams during emergencies and disasters.

United Way of Snohomish County

So far United Way has already pledged $75,000 for mudslide relief. Visit their donation page to make a contribution online; they also explain how to give via check or phone.
