#InspireHerMind: Viral Ad Hopes to Draw Girls to STEM Jobs

A new ad from Verizon begs the question: "Isn't it time we told her she's pretty brilliant, too?"

It's a startling fact that's gotten a lot of traction lately: Women are few and far between in the world of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).

Verizon hopes to change this with their Inspire Her Mind initiative, and they're creating buzz with a new commercial that's gone viral.

In the video, a girl's love of science is stifled by her parents saying things like, "Don't get your dress dirty" and "Who's my pretty girl?"

The ad cites a startling statistic: 66 percent of fourth grade girls say they like science and math, but only 18 percent of all college engineering majors are female.

It closes with a powerful quote by Reshma Saujani, founder of Girls Who Code: "Isn't it time we told her she's pretty brilliant, too?"

The campaign comes less than month after the White House Science Fair that focused on girls who excelled in STEM fields.
