President Barack Obama will announce Wednesday that the fight against ISIS militants could outlast his administration, a senior administration official told NBC News on Monday. Senior administration officials also said that potential targets in Syria could include ISIS leadership, weapons supplies and training camps, depending on intelligence. The United States is already targeting ISIS in Iraq with airstrikes.

Obama pledged last week to “degrade and ultimately destroy” the Islamic militant group. He plans to outline the campaign against ISIS in the Wednesday speech. In a preview, he told NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday: “I just want the American people to understand the nature of the threat and how we're going to deal with it and to have confidence that we'll be able to deal with it.”
