Late-night funnyman Seth Meyers has been tapped to host NBC's telecast of the Primetime Emmy Awards.

Meyers, the host of NBC's "Late Night," will emcee the awards Aug. 25 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, NBC and the Television Academy announced late Thursday.

"Seth's expertise and ease in front of a live audience during his time at 'SNL,' as well as his comedic brilliance both as a writer and in front of the camera on 'SNL' and 'Late Night,' makes him the perfect choice to host the Emmys," said Paul Telegdy, the president of late night and alternative programming for NBC Entertainment.

Meyers, a former cast member and head writer on "Saturday Night LIve," was named by Time Magazine earlier Thursday as one of the 100 most influential people in the world for 2014.

NBC also announced that award-winning producer and director Don Mischer will serve as executive producer of the live broadcast.
