LG's latest generation of smart fridges do more than keep the food inside cold. They can also save you from wasting food and even keep you entertained.

Building on features the company introduced last year, the new units connect to the Internet via  Wi-Fi  and help users manage the food inside. The fridges feature an interactive grocery list and recipes that help you take advantage of the items you have. You can also scan or enter foods that you have, and the fridge will track expiration dates so you know when something is about to go bad.

This year, LG will also make it possible to order food from an online grocery store directly through the embedded LCD screen on the refrigerator's door.

The LCD screen is more than just a glorified control panel, though. You can also use the screen to  watch videos , show photos, listen to music and check the weather, among other options.

Away from the kitchen, you can access the fridge's inventory through an iOS or Android app to keep track of what you need to buy. If the fridge experiences problems, the unit can also alert you through your smartphone.

While LG has yet to announce prices for its new line of smart appliances, last year's smart fridge cost around $3500. The company will be showing off its new appliances and other electronics next week at  CES 2013  in Las Vegas.
