Spanish-language radio listeners in parts of California, Colorado, Nevada and Washington state might have heard new ads released on Monday targeting their Republican congressional candidates for "turning their back" on immigration reform legislation.
"Thousands of immigrant families suffer from deportations because we couldn't pass immigration reform," says a narrator in Spanish following the sounds of an ICE agent breaking a door and a mother crying out about her child. Another Spanish-language soccer-themed ad blames House Republican speaker John Boehner and Republicans in Congress for maliciously "tackling" reform. "This was foul play and it deserves a red card," says the narrator.
The ads were created by the Alliance for Citizenship, which includes labor, immigration, legal, Latino, Asian and religious organizations. The GOP 2014 candidates targeted are Colorado's Rep. Mike Coffman and Rep. Cory Gardner, California's Rep. Jeff Denham, Rep. David Valadao and Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Nevada Rep. Joe Heck and Washington state's Cathy McMorris Rodgers.
