A day after he was fired, a UPS employee showed up to work in Birmingham, Alabama, gunned down two bosses and then killed himself, police said Tuesday. "It appears the shooter knew exactly who he wanted to target at the time," Lt. Sean Edwards said.

The names of the gunman and the victims were not released.

"It's extremely troubling for the city, for these families that are involved, because when these people came to work today they had no idea that this would be their last day here on earth," Police Chief A.C. Roper told NBC affiliate WVTM. "To have this happen to them inside their place of employment doing what we want people to do — find a job, work, be productive, give back to society — they were doing that. No one was doing anything risky, they were just people doing their jobs. It's extremely sad."
