The Girl Scouts and the Disney Channel are teaming up in a novel way to guide, educate and promote leadership among young Latinas. They are using Disney's new hit, princess 'Elena of Avalor,' as an inspiration.

The recently launched animated television series by the Disney Channel sparked the debut of The Elena of Avalor Leadership Guide. The leadership guide, created by both the Girl Scouts and Disney, features a 12-page pamphlet divided into four short chapters.

The collaboration uses the Girl Scout techniques for leading like a G.I.R.L. (Go-Getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader)™ to help young girls reach their goals.

Available in both English and Spanish, the guide has a wide variety of uses, according to Sylvia Acevedo, interim CEO of GSUSA.

"From seeking new challenges to being empathetic and setting goals to making decisions, the guide can be used as a resource for parents and caregivers to engage and develop their girls’ everyday leadership skills", said Acevedo.

Nancy Kanter, executive vice president of original programming and general manager of Disney Junior, told NBC Latino that the partnership makes sense.

"Girl Scouts is an organization around helping girls develop leadership skills; they are a perfect partner for us," Kanter said.

Kanter also described how the series Elena of Avalor was created for all kids to love, with its emphasis on the Latino community.

"We thought that this would be a great opportunity to have this new princess world influenced by Spanish culture, music, mythologies and archaeology. This gave us so much color and variety that we would be able to make this kingdom unique", Kanter said.

Each chapter of the guide is designed for a certain age group. There is preschool (decision-making, self-awareness, curiosity), kindergarten - 1st grade (collaboration, direct communication, grit), 2nd - 3rd grade (confidence, critical thinking, goal-setting), and 4th - 5th grade (problem solving, challenge-seeking, empathy).

"Through the Disney Channel series, it is evident that Elena of Avalor demonstrates compassion, critical thinking, collaboration, and courage— the very leadership qualities of Girl Scouts across the movement", said Acevedo.

Through the collaboration, Disney also created a new award that embraces leadership efforts by young girls.

The reward is called the "Elena of Avalor Scepter of Light," and it is accompanied by a small scholarship.

Elena of Avalor recently was renewed for a second season after its very successful premiere.
